iK:Host is a blossoming new but rapidly developing hosting company based in the north of the UK, continuing to provide its clients with excellent service, support and resources for budget prices. Its services include webhosting, virtual private servers (VPS), IRC servers, wireless broadband internet, domain names and email hosting.
I have used two of iK:Host's services over the past few years: their IRC servers and recently have switched to their hosting services. While being with iK:Host, I have experienced the perfect blend of price and quality of service. The current package I am on is the personal webhosting package.
Their IRC network, TrueIRC, is a secure and stable network with a group of experienced network administrators. It's currently home to my website's IRC channel, and is also home to mess.be's official IRC channel.
The control panel I use for web space administration is DirectAdmin, although iK:Host also offers cPanel with Fantastico for no extra price. Although it isn't the most popular software available, it is definitely stable and I think iK:Host promoting it on par with cPanel is great as it offers equal, if not better, functionality to cPanel.
The security on the hosting service is very well maintained. The iK:Host staff has made sure that all precautions have been made to ensure the safety of the data on their servers. For example, register_globals is off in PHP and all the other mandatory configurations have been set as standard.
In terms of uptime, there has been only one time where I've caught my site offline. The situation was resolved quickly and I was told what had happened and what precautions were taken to prevent it from happening again. In this case, it was a fault of another client on the server running a resource hogging script.
The dedication to support and service that iK:Host have shown to me so far is very impressive - their contact details are listed on their billing system, on a secure connection I will add, and within minutes of me sending a text message to the support staff I was greeted by an email sent by a human being explaining my query.
I think the great thing about this host overall is the freedom and service you receive. You can choose where you would like your site to be located - either in mainland Europe or in the UK - which is great for UK and Europe based countries for even faster load times. Even with their starter package, you can host unlimited domains and you have a massive 4GB of storage space and 40GB bandwidth.
You can also tell that the company is making profit due to their rapid expansion in the recent years, which is a good sign of continued stability to your hosting service unlike many other start-up hosting companies. iK:Host is now beginning to offer wireless internet access in their local area, faster connection speeds for their server racks as well as having two choices of server location.
As a client, you can refer customers using your own unique referrer link. The financial opportunities for this are pretty good, but they aren't very well publicised on the website. Because of this, I haven't had much of a chance at getting immersed in referring people to iK:Host, but hopefully I will do in the future.
My honest opinion of the service I have experienced this company offers based around its current size? 4 out of 5, and so far I would recommend this host to anybody looking for a stable host at a low price. The reason I've chosen this rating is because obviously there are a few things they can improve on, especially the website's content although it looks professional and modern.
